Capsugel Expands Equipment Business Through Acquisition of Xcelodose® Technology - 8 August 2005
Capsugel today announced that it has expanded its equipment product offering to its pharmaceutical customers through the acquisition of the Xcelodose® powder micro-dosing technology from Meridica. Meridica is the Cambridge UK-based drug delivery company acquired by Pfizer Ltd. in 2004.
Xcelodose® is a unique micro-dosing technology, which offers automated capsule filling for preparation of early stage clinical trial supplies. It can handle drug compounds without bulking agent or excipient and can precisely fill up to several hundred capsules per hour with programmable weights, from 100 micrograms to several hundreds of milligrams with a Relative Standard Deviation (RSD) of less than 2%.
David Edwards will continue as the Director responsible for the Xcelodose® business that is now part of Capsugel, the world's leading manufacturer and supplier of capsules. Xcelodose® will trade under the Capsugel name with no disruption in service to customers.
Guido Driesen, President of Capsugel said "We have long admired the Xcelodose® technology, and following the acquisition of Meridica the decision to bring the business into Capsugel was an easy one to make. The Xcelodose® technology will help us continue to develop our relationships with research-based pharmaceutical companies, and the resulting synergies will be very beneficial".
The Xcelodose® operation will be run from Capsugel's UK offices in Cambridge, UK For further information on Xcelodose®, see www.xcelodose.com
