Encapsulation Tools for Rapid Product Development

May 16, 2017

10 AM PT (7 PM CET)

Market Segment: Biopharmaceutical

Moving a compound from proof-of-concept through clinical studies presents a number of challenges. Specialized capsules and encapsulation techniques can greatly simplify early studies, and play a critical role in meeting drug program timelines. Simple, scalable encapsulation solutions can further provide for rapid commercialization.

This webinar will review specialized capsules approaches and associated best practices developed by Capsugel product development teams:

  • Specialized capsules for clinical studies have been developed for rapid preclinical assessments, double-blind studies, and to allow capsule color decisions to be made later in the drug development process
  • Capsugel Xcelodose®-based powder-in-capsule / microdosing studies have proven to reduce POC – phase II studies by up to 45% vs. traditional methods by eliminating excipient-related studies
  • Liquid-filled hard capsule (LFHC) technology provides rapid POC and clinical evaluations across a wide range of challenging compounds, e.g. poorly soluble, highly potent, cytotoxics, proteins, peptides.

Representative case studies demonstrating key aspects of these technologies will be discussed by Capsugel scientists.

Presented by:

  • Matt Richardson, Ph.D., Manager, Pharmaceutical Business Development, Capsugel
  • Jeffrey Williamson, Director, Preformulation/Formulation, Capsugel

Spray Dried Biologics: Formulation and Process Considerations

April 11, 2017

11 AM ET (5 PM CET, 8 AM PT)

Market Segment: Biopharmaceutical

Spray drying is a precedented method for the continuous manufacturing of engineered dry powder particles from a liquid feed solution. The process is readily tunable and scalable which allows for rapid formulation screening, using a small amount of active, while also directly translatable to cGMP manufacture. Given these attributes the technology is applicable to formulating and processing biotherapeutic products.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Show why spray drying is applicable and enabling for biologics

  • Understand spray drying formulation considerations

  • How to tune the spray drying process to biologics

  • Delivery options for spray dried biologics

Presented by:

  • Michael Burke, Sr. Scientist, Product Development, Capsugel

Novel HPMC Capsules – Bioequivalence and Functional Performance

March 16, 2017

11 AM ET (4 PM CET)

Market Segment: Biopharmaceutical

Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) capsules are well-vetted and have been used in pharmaceutical formulations for many years. But a new HPMC-polymer capsule (Vcaps® Plus) made through an innovative thermo-gelation process avoids the addition of gelling agents that can react with the pH or ionic strengths of dissolution media, providing gelatin-like performance.

Although HPMC capsules are used in marketed drugs, there are few comparisons of the in-vivo performance between gelatin and HPMC in literature.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Characteristics of leading-edge HPMC capsules
  • The in-vitro and in-vivo performance comparison of HGC vs. HPMC for several drugs
  • Functional performance of HPMC when used with weakly-basic drugs

Presented by:

  • Matt Richardson, Ph.D., Manager, Pharmaceutical Business Development, Capsugel

  • Michael Morgen, Ph.D., Senior Principal Scientist, Bend Research

What it takes to compete and win in today's sports nutrition market

March 09, 2017

11:30 AM CET

Market Segment: Consumer Health & Nutrition

As consumers increasingly focus on living a healthy life, the appeal of sports nutrition products is broadening from bodybuilders and professional athletes to include everyday active adults. And as the market continues to grow, sports nutrition manufacturers seek to create products that increase stamina, sustain energy, enhance recovery and are science backed with clean ingredients.

In this webinar hosted during the Sports Nutrition 2017 Online Summit, Dominik Mattern will discuss what it takes to compete and win in today's sports nutrition.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Improve bioavailability through lipid multi-particulate technology,
  • Increase stability of sensitive ingredients,
  • Protect acid resistant ingredients so they release in the body at the right time,
  • Improve swallowability, taste-masking and how to combine multiple ingredients to make nutritionals more consumer friendly.

Clean Label Activation: Consumer Insights and Manufacturing Case Studies

March 01, 2017

11 AM ET (5 PM CET)

Market Segment: Consumer Health & Nutrition

The clean label trend has become a major consumer demand. Starting with food, it has translated quickly to the nutritional arena. Supplement consumers are demanding transparency through a cleaner label; they want clear knowledge and understanding of the ingredients they are consuming.

Join Capsugel as we examine the important elements of the clean label trend—and how marketers can leverage them—and offer concrete examples of how to “make it happen,” with tips on developing new products or reformulating existing ones to better meet consumers’ expectations. Through case studies we will showcase the process and progress of a product developer’s choices to meet this market need.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Top trends for clean label;
  • Consumer segment insights to help you prioritize your opportunities;
  • Case studies and tips for managing the manufacturing challenges of pursuing a clean label.

Presented by:

  • Missy Lowery, Sr. Marketing Manager, Capsugel
