Drug discovery research using preclinical animals requires broadly applicable small-scale formulation methods for assessing compounds and targets at an early stage of development. This poster focuses on the manufacture and performance of small-scale modified-release bead formulations using a custom-built “micro” fluid-bed system. This equipment can spray-coat nominally 0.5- to 1-g batches (using approximately 100 mg API) of 60-μm-diameter beads. Results are presented for four model drugs.
