Spray-Dried Biologics: Formulation and Process Considerations

This webinar describes a holistic approach that uses spray-drying, a well-established pharmaceutical process, to prepare biological molecules. This approach offers a compelling (and often enabling) alternative to delivery of biologics in a liquid or lyophilized solid form, capitalizing on the process’s inherent advantages (e.g., easy scalability, flexibility with respect to formulation, process, and delivery mechanism). The spray-drying process is described, as are important formulation and process considerations, including the target product profile, typical excipients and rationale for selection, the formulation’s potential impact on the process, scale-up, and analytical needs. A brief case study on spray-drying monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) is presented.
