The rising prevalence of respiratory diseases has driven a growing demand for effective inhalation therapies. Capsule-based Dry Powder Inhaler (cDPI) represents a prominent solution in this domain.

This study presented as a poster during the RDD Europe conference explored the influence of capsule type on cDPI performance. It compared different Capsugel® Zephyr® capsules type: hard gelatin capsules (HGC), PEG-modified HGC, and various hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC)-based capsules.

Results show that HPMC-based capsules, particularly Capsugel® Zephyr® Vcaps® Plus 2, exhibit superior aerodynamic performance. The findings highlight the importance of capsule selection in optimizing DPI delivery and suggest that early-stage aerodynamic performance comparisons can guide the choice of the most suitable capsule for specific formulations.
