The Effect of Food and Gastrointestinal Residence on Drug Absorption: Case Studies which Merit the In Vivo Study of Dosage

Over the last twenty years, we have observed instances where food and/or specific dosage formulations have profoundly affected gastrointestinal transit and oral drug absorption. To study this relationship, the techniques of external gamma scintigraphy have provided a noninvasive method to quantitate gastrointestinal transit and also to assess the in vivo condition of the drug delivery system.
