This publication describes the use of lipid-based formulations in drug development over the past 50 years, primarily to promote the absorption of poorly water-soluble compounds. Detailed insights into the bioavailability-enhancing properties of lipid formulations are presented, as are recent advancements in in vitro testing of lipid formulations.
