Lonza's Business Response to COVID-19

March 24, 2020

The global spread of COVID-19 continues to impact the world around us. Lonza is closely monitoring the evolving situation and is taking all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of both its products and people. We have implemented global measures to prevent the spread, protect employees and maintain site operations, which include:

  • Visitor screening at sites
  • Limiting all business travel and a ban on travel to high-risk regions and countries
  • Flexible and home working arrangements for employees
  • Encouraging virtual meetings where possible

We are also issuing regular reminders to employees to remain vigilant and maintain good personal hygiene habits. Lonza has put in place a 14-day stay-at-home policy for any colleagues who have recently travelled from high-risk areas or who report suspected symptoms of the virus.

Operations and Site Measures

Each Lonza manufacturing site has a business continuity plan in place which considers the local situation, government guidance, the number of employees and type of manufacturing that takes place. Our site plans also include communication and cooperation with local health authorities and other relevant stakeholders.

There is a global procedure which all sites are required to follow, should an employee be affected by COVID-19. This procedure includes, but is not limited to:

  • Immediate quarantine
  • Notifying the local health authorities
  • Contact tracing of all close-contact colleagues, third parties and recently used areas
  • Immediate quarantine and testing of all close-contacts for possible COVID-19 infection
  • Deep cleaning of any potentially contaminated areas
  • Further measures (dependent on location, risk and operations continuity)
Supply Chain Impact

Lonza sources materials from suppliers across the globe and the supply chain of each material is mapped and monitored. Depending on international trade precautions, intermittent delays in shipments may occur in the future. These delays are mostly due to local logistics restrictions, but we are rerouting shipments where possible and working with alternative suppliers.

Given the circumstances, we are asking our teams to continue to conduct meetings with our customers virtually, where possible.

While we know conducting the work we do together virtually is not optimal, it will enable us to do our part to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and most importantly, enable us to continue to deliver the highest quality product to our customers and the patients and consumers they serve.

As the situation evolves, we will duly inform you of any changes to the above measures. Please feel free to continue to reach out to us should you have any question.
